About the Doctors

Have you ever wondered why Australia only has 400 orthodontists? It’s because it takes on average 12-15 years to gain enough skills to become qualified specialist.

Dr. Peter G. Gaffey B.D.S. (Syd.) MDSc (Orthodontics) Cert Ortho (Canada)

Dr. Peter Gaffey has lived and worked in the Shoalhaven for over 30 years. He was initially posted to HMAS Albatross as the resident Dental Officer of the base and quickly fell in love with the south coast. Upon leaving the Royal Australian Navy, Peter pioneered the first dental practice in Jervis Bay. In 1994 he graduated from the University of Alberta (Canada) as a specialist orthodontist and returned to the south coast to become the first fulltime specialist dentist in the Shoalhaven.

Peter has treated over 5000 orthodontic cases and enjoys keeping up to date with the latest technological advances such as digital imaging, clear and invisible braces, and laser therapy. He has lectured locally and internationally on clinical imaging and bracket bonding technology. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). He is also an accredited provider of Invisalign and is a world leading published expert in the use of clear braces.

Dr. Benjamin J. Gaffey B.D.S. (Adel) D Clin Dent (Orthodontics) (New Zealand)

Born in Nowra in 1978, Dr. Benjamin Gaffey can rightly claim that he has the Shoalhaven in his blood. He completed his initial dental training at the University of Adelaide where he received the SAFDER research scholarship. He then went on the work as a dentist with the Royal Australian Navy, deploying out on active missions as well as working on bases along the Eastern seaboard. Dr. Benjamin Gaffey is an active member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO) and FORENZAO.
